I guess it depends on where the hotel is. If you're in Florida then a stray croc (or was that an alligator??) might give you pause. In Mexico, a good ole stray ostrich is a thing of beauty!
It was at first a toss up between cats and birds but birds can be unpredictable and erratic. And they will just let off a load of excrement with no remorse. More or less when you see a cat you know what you're going to get. Plus they self-clean.
Worst stray animal: Cockroach
There wasn't much competition here. I guess where you see one has more weighting. If it is in your room then that's unacceptable but if it's at the buffet then that also is unacceptable but atleast it isn't in your room.
@David Madden oh I have a hotel roach story. I won’t call their name BUT can you imagine I’m helping with a conference planned at a hotel…I am reorganizing the table so I lift the little basket with sugar packages and place it back on the table - out runs many tiny little roaches. I died ten times in 30 seconds. The End.

At a hotel I would prefer to see a stray cat over a stray rat
David, there is no such thing as a good stray animal to see at a hotel!😜
